Immune activation status determines non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) prognosis, with reported positive/negative associations for T helper type 2 (TH2) responses, including allergen-specific IgE and eosinophils. Our study seeks to explore the potential impact of these comorbid immune responses on the survival rates of patients with NSCLC. Our retrospective study used data from the Data Warehouse of the German Center for Lung Research (DZL) and Lung Biobank at Thoraxklinik Heidelberg.

Several susceptibility loci for classical Hodgkin lymphoma have been reported. However, much of the heritable risk is unknown. Here, we perform a meta-analysis of two existing genome-wide association studies, a new genome-wide association study, and replication totalling 5,314 cases and 16,749 controls.

Ovarian cancer is a deadly disease, largely because of relapse and chemotherapy resistance. Common genetic mechanisms causing drug resistance have not been identified. A recent study unravels a novel and unexpected pathway involving the transfer of microvesicle-encapsulated miRNA from omental adipocytes and fibroblasts, to cancer cells.

Engineered antibodies have become an invaluable source of biopharmaceuticals against a wide range of diseases. About 200 antibody-based biologicals have been tested in clinical trials. Single chain variable fragments of antibodies (scFvs) provide binding specificity and offer an increased ease of in vitro display selection.

The bifunctional protein DCoH/PCD is both a cytoplasmatic enzyme (PCD) involved in the tetrahydrobiopterin regeneration and a transcription coactivator (DCoH). Originally detected in liver cell nuclei, it forms a 2:2 heterotetrameric complex with the nuclear transcription factors HNF1alpha and the variant form HNF1beta and enhances their transcriptional potential. To address the role of DCoH in tissue specific and developmental gene regulation we analyzed its spatial and temporal expression pattern in the rat.
