Transcatheter mitral valve repair with MitraClip® enabling single lung transplantation: A case report.

Post-capillary hypertension resulting from mitral regurgitation is typically considered a contraindication for single lung transplantation due to heightened risks of primary graft dysfunction. This case report highlights a 66-year-old COPD patient with severe mitral regurgitation who was deemed ineligible for surgical mitral replacement. As an alternative, transcatheter mitral valve replacement was successfully performed, resulting in the normalization of pulmonary artery pressures.

Emerging Detection of Hexahydrocannabinol in Driver Saliva: Preliminary Data.

Introduction: Hexahydrocannabinol or HHC has recently appeared on the Internet and in cannabidiol (CBD) stores in various forms. Although the abuse and dependence potential of HHC consumption has not yet been established, HHC has been reported by consumers to have effects similar to delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and has been classified as narcotics in France since June 12, 2023.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of all cases of oral fluid samples collected from drivers by traffic police officers and sent to our laboratory to confirm the presence of illicit substances between June 12, 2023 and December 31, 2023.

Outside-in hair contamination by blood containing opiates and opioids.

Hair analysis for drugs has become extensively used for forensic investigation in recent years. To best interpret hair drug content in post-mortem conditions, the extent of external contamination by biological fluids, such as blood, must be taken into account to avoid false positive results. The present study evaluated opiates and opioids incorporation into hair from blood containing different concentrations of morphine (MOR), 6-mono-acetyl morphine (6-AM), codeine (COD), dihydrocodeine (DHC), tramadol (TRA), oxycodone (OXY), methadone (MET), 2-ethylidene-1,5-dimethyl-3,3- diphenyl pyrrolidine (EDDP), buprenorphine (BUP) and norbuprenorphine (NBUP).

Enhanced coagulation for removal of dissolved organic nitrogen in water: A review.

Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) meeting strict nutrient discharge regulations typically effectively remove inorganic nitrogen, leaving dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) as the main component of total nitrogen in the effluent. DON in treated effluent from both WWTPs and drinking water treatment plants (DWTPs) has the potential to induce eutrophication and contribute to the formation of nitrogenous disinfection byproducts (N-DBP). While numerous studies have investigated DON in different water sources, a limited number of studies have focused on its removal through enhanced coagulation.

Optimizing ozone treatment for pathogen removal and disinfection by-product control for potable reuse at pilot-scale.

Reclaimed water poses environmental and human health risks due to residual organic micropollutants and pathogens. Ozonation of reclaimed water to control pathogens and trace organics is an important step in advanced water treatment systems for potable reuse of reclaimed water. Ensuring efficient pathogen reduction while controlling disinfection byproducts remains a significant challenge to implementing ozonation in reclaimed water reuse applications.
