TGFα/HinfI Polymorphisms Contribute to Nonsyndromic Cleft Lip and Palate in Turkish Patients.

Background: Nonsyndromic cleft lip with/without cleft palate (nsCL ± P) is one of the most common birth defects of complex etiology, occurring in ∼1/700 live births worldwide. A series of epidemiological studies were conducted to investigate the association between a transforming growth factor alpha (TGFα) polymorphism and nsCL ± P risk. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between the TGFα/HinfI polymorphisms and nsCL ± P in Turkish patients.

Combined surgical-orthodontic rehabilitation of cleidocranial dysplasia: 5 years follow-up.

Cleidocranial dysplasia (CD) is an autosomal dominant syndrome which is characterized by several skeletal malformations such as non-closed fontanelles, skeletal abnormalities of the maxilla and mandible and absence of clavicles. Mid-facial hypoplasia and mandibular prognathism are mostly seen jaw abnormalities in CD. In this study, the combined orthodontic-surgical treatment of a patient with CD with class III malocclusion and multiple unerupted primary and deciduous teeth is presented.

Effect of sildenafil on platelet function and platelet cGMP of patients with erectile dysfunction.

To investigate the effect of sildenafil on platelet function and cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) levels in patients with erectile dysfunction, we evaluated the association between erectile function and platelet responses after administration of 100 mg sildenafil. Erectile responses were monitored after 8 daily doses of the drug. Adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and collagen-induced platelet aggregation and simultaneous adenosine triphosphate (ATP) release and cGMP levels were determined before and after sildenafil therapy.

Evaluation of a new ultrasound measurement tool for the diagnosis of dysfunctional voiding in pediatric population: full/empty bladder wall thickness ratio.

Objective: To investigate the roles of bladder wall thickness (BWT) measurement and full/empty (F/E) BWT measurement ratio in the diagnosis of dysfunctional voiding in pediatric population.

Methods: Totally, 324 patients were involved in this prospective study, and group 1 consisted of healthy children (n=198), and group 2 consisted of patients with dysfunctional voiding (n=126). BWT measurements were done at the anterior, posterior, and lateral walls, and F/E BWT ratios were calculated.

Determination of Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase (MTHFR) gene polymorphism in Turkish patients with nonsyndromic cleft lip and palate.

Objective: To investigate the association between MTHFR C677T polymorphism and Turkish patients with nonsyndromic cleft lip and/or palate (nsCL/P) and to determine the prevalence of the Turkish population.

Patients And Methods: Molecular analysis of gene polymorphisms were carried out using polymerase chain reactions and restriction enzyme digestions. In our study, 80 patients with nsCL/P and 125 unrelated individuals from Turkey were studied.
