E.coli bacteria, grown in anaerobic conditions, in the medium with glucose, lactose or maltose, upon transferring into a fresh medium with the same sugar acidify it and accumulate potassium ions with a fixed stoichiometry for the N,N'-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide-inhibited cation fluxes, which is equal to 2H+ of the cytoplasm per one K+ of the medium. Such an H(+)-K(+)-exchange is sensitive to osmotic shock.

The paper is concerned with the results of analysis of a clinico-laboratory study of persons (residents of Armenia) who took part in the elimination of the effects of the Chernobyl accident. Investigation of general morbidity revealed no correlation with exposure to ionizing radiation. The symptom complex of pathological changes included CNS functional disorders, a transition from the hypokinetic type of a heart response to exercise to the normokinetic one, lowered immune status and tissue peripheral blood flow, unmarked hematological and biochemical shifts, suggesting suppression of the body antioxidant system.

It was shown that DCCD-sensitive ATPase activity of isolated membranes and preparations of F1F0 only from anaerobically grown E. coli depended on K+ activity. F1F0 include two additional proteins which correspond to the Trk system.

Karyometric analysis of blood lymphocytes of persons, exposed to low levels of radiation (up to 25 rem) during elimination of the consequences of the Chernobyl accident, has shown changes of lymphocyte densitometric-geometric parameters, characteristic for radiation exposure, observed in 188 of 294 examinees. The meaning of these statistically significant changes is the following: percentage of the level of large lymphocytes is on the decrease whereas that of average and small ones is on the decrease. There is also a parallel rise of values of the area and perimeter of a lymphocyte nuclear section.
