Umbilical surgical site infection (U-SSI) is the most common complication of laparoscopic percutaneous extraperitoneal closure (LPEC) for the treatment of inguinal hernia in children. Prolonged operative time is known to increase the risk of SSI in general pediatric surgery; however, the association between prolonged operative time and post-LPEC U-SSI is unclear.
