Background: Biosynthetic porcine type I collagen dressing is useful to close ulcers and secondary intention healing of surgical cancer wounds.
Objective: To identify factors associated with the healing time of such wounds.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective observational study of patients on oncological dermatological surgery in a cancer center.
Molecular diagnostics are increasingly performed routinely in the diagnosis and management of patients with melanoma due to the development of novel therapies that target specific genetic mutations. The development of next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies has enabled to sequence multiple cancer-driving genes in a single assay, with improved sensitivity in mutation detection. The main objective of this study was the design and implementation of a melanoma-specific sequencing panel, and the identification of the spectrum of somatic mutations in a series of primary melanoma samples.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe onset of a dermatomyositis-like rash and persistent skin ulcers during long-term treatment with hydroxyurea is a very rare event that has not been fully described in the literature. The fact that these lesions have a typical clinical presentation and course, and that complete resolution can only be achieved by immediate withdrawal of the drug, means that dermatologists should be aware of this condition in order to avoid a delay in diagnosis. We present the case of a 76-year-old woman who developed a dermatomyositis-like eruption associated with chronic ulcers on the lower limbs during long-term treatment with hydroxyurea.
