This review involves generalized data on extracellular proteases of filamentous fungi. General characteristics of secreted proteases and their classification are considered. Analysis of the data available revealed that fungi secrete only serine, aspartyl, and metalloproteases.

The inhibition constants of bovine trypsin, chymotrypsin and cathepsin G from human granulocytes with BWI-1 were found to be 1.1, 67 and 200 nM, respectively.
