Tetrasomy 5p mosaicism due to an extra i(5p) in a severely affected girl.

We present a case of mosaic 5p tetrasomy. The mosaicism 46,XX/47,XX,+i(5p) was found at different ratios in blood lymphocytes, skin fibroblasts, and chondrocytes. The origin of the extra isochromosome was confirmed by FISH.

[Treatment of patent ductus arteriosus in preterm infants].

A retrospective study is made on the results of the treatment of 38 preterm infants with symptomatic PDA; they represented an incidence of 4% of all the admissions to our Unit from June 1978 to March 1980. 30 of the 38 infants (79%) had PDA associated with RDS. Conservative medical treatment failed in 42% of the patients, requiring the administration of indomethacin for pharmacologic closure of their PDA.

[Neonatal osteoarthritis. Report on 24 cases (author's transl)].

Twenty four neonates affected of osteoarticular infection, treated on the Neonatal Unit throughout a four and a half year period are analyzed. In the majority of instances they represent a complication in the course of neonatal sepsis. In more than half of them there was a previous umbilical vessel catheterization.

Enteropathogenic Esch. coli gastroenteritis in premature infants and children treated with fosfomycin.

Forty-two infants, some premature, with enteropathogenic Esch. coli (EPEC) gastroenteritis were treated with an oral suspension of fosfomycin in a dose of 100 and 200 mg/kg per day. After the treatment there were 11 secondary clinical infections (6 reinfections and 5 relapses) which received a second treatment with fosfomycin.
