E-learning and research experience exchange in the online setting of student peer mentor network during COVID-19 pandemic and beyond: A laboratory case study.

For close to 2 years, we have witnessed the impacts of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on research at several different levels. Among the list, limited access to laboratory-based training for undergraduate students prevented this cohort from gaining exposure to the realities of a research laboratory at a critical time in training when they may have found motivation in this area as a career. COVID exposed a weakness in our training pipeline; an extreme dependency on face-to-face training that threatened to create a void in the research talent needed to replenish the scientific community every year.

Open trial of cimetidine in the prevention of upper gastro-intestinal haemorrhage in patients with severe intracranial injury.

The present study evaluates the efficacy of Cimetidine in the prevention of clinically important gastro-intestinal haemorrhage in patients suffering from severe head injury. Fifty patients (39 males and 11 females) were included in the study. We excluded from the trial patients on anticoagulant therapy or concomitant non-steroid anti-inflammatory agents, pregnant and lactating women, and patients with previous histories of peptic ulcer disease.

Use of sodium nitroprusside in neurosurgical cases during anesthesia with enflurane.

In patients operated for cerebral aneurysm or angioma, the same basic method of anesthesia has been used. Premedication consisted of Thalamonal or diazepam. After induction with thiopentone, curarisation with pancuronium and tracheal intubation, anesthesia was maintained with N2O 70%, O2 30% and enflurane 1%.
