(NS) is an annual herb belonging to the Ranunculaceae family, also known as black cumin or black seed. This plant has been used since ancient times due to its therapeutic properties and has proven effective in gastrointestinal, respiratory, cardiovascular, infectious, and inflammatory conditions. In this review, the aim is to highlight the therapeutic effects of the plant known in Arab countries as "the plant that cures any disease", which are provided by the phytochemical compounds in its composition, such as thymoquinone, p-cymene, α-thujene, longifolene, β-pinene, α-pinene, and carvacrol.

Orthopedic screws are subjected to high mechanical stress, corrosive environment, and microbial colonization, which may cumulatively lead to implant failure and periprosthetic joint infections. To overcome these issues, this study has focused on modifying the surface chemistry and topography of screws utilized in knee intervention toward enhancing their mechanical and biological behaviors. Specifically, this study has explored the optimization of composite coatings made of polycaprolactone (PCL), graphene oxide (GO), and Meropenem (MRP) via the matrix-assisted pulsed laser evaporation (MAPLE) technique.

Since sarcopenia is a progressive condition that leads to decreased muscle mass and function, especially in elderly people, it is a public health problem that requires attention from researchers. This review aims to highlight drug delivery systems that have a high and efficient therapeutic potential for sarcopenia. Current as well as future research needs to consider the barriers encountered in the realization of delivery systems, such as the route of administration, the interaction of the systems with the aggressive environment of the human body, the efficient delivery and loading of the systems with therapeutic agents, and the targeted delivery of therapeutic agents into the muscle tissue without creating undesirable adverse effects.

Context: Lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) is a novel biomarker for cardiovascular diseases (CVD) risk estimation with high specificity for vascular inflammation. Few studies have investigated Lp-PLA2 levels in patients with metabolic syndrome (MetS) and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS).

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the role of Lp-PLA2 levels as a marker of vascular inflammation that contributes to cardiometabolic dysfunction in patients with MetS and OSAS.

Respiratory bacterial infections are associated with important coagulation disturbances that amplify the pulmonary lesions and determine a more severe course of the disease. The aim of our study was to investigate the correlation between the evolution of the general clinical parameters and the occurrence of thrombotic events on one side, and plasma levels of selected proteins involved in inflammation and coagulation on the other side, with the intent to establish and to validate a laboratory test panel for the assessment of the vascular risk in patients with bacterial respiratory infections. The study included 111 patients (divided into two groups, 61 without thrombosis and 50 with thrombosis) with bacterial respiratory infections and 30 healthy controls, age and gender-matched.
