- The study investigated the potential link between the Pandemrix® vaccine and narcolepsy in nearly 470,000 Norwegian children vaccinated during the 2009-2010 influenza pandemic.
- Out of the vaccinated group, 58 children were diagnosed with narcolepsy, with most symptoms appearing shortly after vaccination, including excessive daytime sleepiness and cataplexy, and many had low hypocretin levels in their cerebrospinal fluid.
- Findings indicated a significantly higher risk of developing narcolepsy with cataplexy within the first year post-vaccination, suggesting that the vaccine could contribute to at least 10 cases per 100,000 individuals annually during that time.
