Human papillomavirus infection is not related with prostatitis-related symptoms: results from a case-control study.

Purpose: To investigate the relationship between human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and prostatitis-related symptoms.

Materials And Methods: All young heterosexual patients with prostatitis-related symptoms attending the same Center from January 2005 to December 2010 were eligible for this case-control study. Sexually active asymptomatic men were considered as the control group.

Fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography may aid the diagnosis of aggressive primary prostate cancer: A case series study.

Recent evidence has shown that positive results may be observed for fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) in undifferentiated, biologically aggressive and metastatic tumors. The present study describes a case series of six patients with normal prostate-specific antigen (PSA) serum levels who underwent FDG-PET due to other causes. Positive PET results were observed at the prostate and the patients were subsequently diagnosed with high-risk prostate cancer.

Microwave-induced thermoablation with Amica-probe is a safe and reproducible method to treat solid renal masses: results from a phase I study.

Microwave thermal ablation (MWTA) could be considered in the future for treating small solid renal masses. The aim of the present study was to determine both the tolerability of the new Amica-probe applicator-induced MWTA used in vivo on patients with solid renal masses and the effects of heating on renal tumors and normal renal parenchyma. Fourteen patients with renal masses eligible for open radical nephrectomy were enrolled in this phase I study.

Clinical characteristics and overall survival in genitourinary sarcomas treated with curative intent: a multicenter study.

Objectives: Adult soft tissue sarcomas in general, and those arising from the urological organs in particular, are a group of rare tumours with a generally poor prognosis, only a few studies are available. We report our experience with this type of tumours in a multicenter study carried out in a single region of Central Italy (Tuscany).

Methods: Pre-treatment and follow-up data were obtained from 22 adult patients, all residing in Tuscany, treated consecutively between 1984 and 2002 for primary or locally recurrent genito-urinary sarcomas in 8 urology departments in the area.
