The fecal microbiota of the mouse-eared bat (Myotis velifer) with new records of microbial taxa for bats.

Studies on the fecal microbiome of wild animals reveal valuable information on the feeding habits of the host and the possible roles of bacteria in digestion. In this work we characterized the fecal microbiota of seven male and seven female Myotis velifer bats using the V3-V4 regions of the 16S rRNA gene. Fecal samples were collected at the El Salitre cave in Mexico.

Dogs with diet-associated dilated cardiomyopathy have higher urine di-docosahexaenoyl (22:6)-bis(monoacylglycerol)phosphate, a biomarker of phospholipidosis.

Objective: In dogs with diet-associated dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), we have identified electron microscopic changes suggestive of abnormal lysosomal accumulation of phospholipids and consistent with the appearance of drug-induced phospholipidosis in people and other animals. The objective of this study was to compare concentrations of urine di-docosahexaenoyl (22:6)-bis(monoacylglycerol)phosphate (BMP), a biomarker of drug-induced phospholipidosis, in dogs with DCM eating high-pulse (HP) diets, dogs with DCM eating low-pulse (LP) diets, and healthy controls (control-HP and control-LP).

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, voided urine was collected from client-owned dogs with DCM from September 2018 through March 2020.

On the Origins of Symbiotic Fungi in Carmine Cochineals and Their Function in the Digestion of Plant Polysaccharides.

The cochineal insect Costa (Hemiptera) has cultural and economic value because it produces carminic acid that is used commercially. In this study, distinct fungi were cultured from dissected tissue and identified as , , , , , , and . Fungi were microscopically observed inside cochineals in the gut, fat body, and ovaries.

Comparative genomics of the carmine cochineal symbiont Candidatus Dactylopiibacterium carminicum reveals possible protection to the host against viruses via CRISPR/Cas.

We present new genomes from the bacterial symbiont Candidatus Dactylopiibacterium carminicum obtained from non-domesticated carmine cochineals belonging to the scale insect Dactylopius (Hemiptera: Coccoidea: Dactylopiidae). As Dactylopiibacterium has not yet been cultured in the laboratory, metagenomes and metatranscriptomics have been key in revealing putative symbiont functions. Dactylopiibacterium is a nitrogen-fixing beta-proteobacterium that may be vertically transmitted and shows differential gene expression inside the cochineal depending on the tissue colonized.

Metagenome-Assembled Genome of " Aramenus sp. CH1" from the Chichon volcano, Mexico.

The Chichon volcano contains several thermal manifestations including an acidic crater lake. Here we report a metagenome-assembled genome of " Aramenus sp. CH1," a archaeon inhabiting the crater lake from the Chichon volcano.
