Introduction: Patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) undergoing elective procedures are at risk for Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events (MACE) and symptomatic bleeding. We aimed to identify risk factors to guide perioperative risk stratification.

Methods: We conducted a post-hoc analysis of the "Bridging Anticoagulation in Patients who Require Temporary Interruption of Warfarin Therapy for an Elective Invasive Procedure or Surgery" randomized trial.

Recurrence risk in symptomatic intracranial stenosis treated medically in the real world.

Background: The risk of early recurrence in medically treated patients with intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS) may differ in clinical trials versus real-world settings. Delayed enrollment may contribute to lower event rates in ICAS trials. We aim to determine the 30-day recurrence risk in a real-world setting of symptomatic ICAS.

Tumor necrosis factor-alpha is associated with mineral bone disorder and growth impairment in children with chronic kidney disease.

Background: Mineral and bone disorder (MBD) and growth impairment are common complications of pediatric chronic kidney disease (CKD). Chronic inflammation detrimentally affects bone health and statural growth in non-CKD settings, but the impact of inflammation on CKD-MBD and growth in pediatric CKD remains poorly understood. This study assessed associations between inflammatory cytokines with biomarkers of CKD-MBD and statural growth in pediatric CKD.

Interleukin-6 Contributes to the Development of Anemia in Juvenile CKD.

Introduction: Anemia is a common complication of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in children; however, the role of inflammation in its pathogenesis remains incompletely understood.

Methods: To elucidate the role of interleukin (IL)-6 in renal anemia, we induced CKD by adenine diet in juvenile wild-type (WT) and IL-6 deficient (KO) mice, and examined serum IL-6 and relevant parameters in children with CKD.

Results: WT-CKD mice developed anemia despite increases in serum erythropoietin and displayed low serum iron and elevated serum IL-6.

Collaborative Care in Ambulatory Psychiatry: Content Analysis of Consultations to a Psychiatric Pharmacist.

Objectives: To determine the volume and nature (or topic) of consultations submitted to a psychiatric pharmacist embedded in an ambulatory psychiatry clinic, within a tertiary care academic medical center and to increase our understanding about the ways in which providers consult with an available psychiatric pharmacist.

Experimental Design: Authors analyze and describe the ambulatory psychiatric pharmacist consultation log at an academic ambulatory clinic. All consultation questions were submitted between July 2012 and October 2014.
