Psychological criteria for contraindication in lung transplant candidates: a five-year study.

Lung transplantation presents a wide range of challenges for multidisciplinary teams that manage the care of the recipients. Transplant teams should perform a thorough evaluation of transplant candidates, in order to ensure the best possible post-transplant outcomes. That is especially true for the psychologist, because psychological issues can arise at any point during the perioperative period.

Coronary artery plaque burden and calcium scores in healthy men adhering to long-term wine drinking or alcohol abstinence.

Observational studies suggest there are clinical benefits to moderate red wine (RW) consumption. However, the effects on coronary vasculature and overall lifestyle are unclear. We investigated whether a lifestyle of regular long-term RW consumption is associated with changes in coronary plaque burden, calcium score, carotid intima/media thickness, endothelial function, and metabolic variables, compared with alcohol abstinence.

[Psychological factors influencing smoking persistence in coronary patients].

Purpose: To study the psychological factors influence on the maintenance of smoking in coronary patients.

Methods: Questionnaire was applied in 40 smoking coronary patients, to investigate the tobacco's dependence type and degree, resistance degree, readiness level to abstinence and attitudes/emotions that favors tobacco's use. Male sex was predominant (75%) with age ranging from 25 to 80 (mean 52) years.
