A new conformable embolic agent (Obsidio; Boston Scientific, Marlborough, Massachusetts) is indicated for embolizing hypervascular tumors and treating peripheral vessel bleeding. It is a non-Newtonian hydrogel that becomes less viscous when shear force is applied. This retrospective study examined the safety and effectiveness of the shear-thinning embolic in a single-academic-center experience.

Typically resistant to medical therapy, management is primarily surgical, presenting challenges for medically complex patients with widespread or end-stage disease. Mechanical or aspiration thrombectomy represents an appealing treatment strategy but data are lacking.

Currently, there are no clear guidelines to help distinguish cases where primary removal should be attempted with standard snare technique or whether attempts at removal should directly be started with forceps. This study is aimed to identify clinical and imaging predictors of snare failure which necessitate conversion to endobronchial forceps.

Prior to embolisation, angiography demonstrated the presence of a persistent sciatic artery (PSA). Due to the possibility of embolic particles inadvertently traveling to the lower extremity via this variant arterial pathway, care was taken to only embolise the uterine artery.
