Tissue contamination with persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in organisms proved possible to comprehensively characterize in a single test by combining gas chromatography and high-resolution accurate mass spectrometry. Adipose tissue samples were collected from two Caspian seals (Pusa caspica Gmelin, 1788) found dead on the Caspian Sea shore in 2020. Organochlorine pesticides, primarily DDT and HCH, and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were major pollutants found in the Caspian seals.

We characterized an RNA capture pin (RCP) tool that is non-destructive to the sample and enables rapid purification and enrichment of mRNA for subsequent genetic analysis. At the core of this technology is a pin (200 µm × 3 cm) functionalized with dT15 capture sequences that hybridize to mRNA within 2 min of insertion in the specimen.

Such vibrations are thought to play an important role in weakening flows, yet the independent effects of amplitude, frequency, and pressure on the process have remained unclear. Based on a dimensional analysis and DEM simulations, we show that, in addition to a previously proposed criterion for peak acceleration that leads to breaking of contacts, weakening requires the absolute amplitude squared of the displacement to be sufficiently large relative to the confining pressure.
