Women faculty members' challenges when pursuing leadership positions in academic dentistry: A survey.

Purpose/objectives: This study addresses persistent gender disparities in leadership roles in academic dentistry. The objectives were to identify the challenges and barriers to leadership that women face in general and during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to describe resources they need to reach their leadership potential.

Methods: The American Dental Education Association Section on Women in Leadership (WIL), gathered survey data concerning leadership challenges and faculty development needs.

Vaccine Hesitancy and Its Epistemic Antecedents: A Meta-Analysis.

Although much attention has been given to vaccine hesitancy, there is still considerable ambiguity regarding its epistemological antecedents. The current meta-analysis addresses this theoretical and practical gap by focusing on the interplay between trust, belief in conspiracy theories, and COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy ( = 32), as well as key moderators such as the availability of the vaccine and the state and progress of the pandemic. Overall, results indicate that while both trust and beliefs in conspiracy theories are important correlates of vaccine hesitancy, considerable difference emerges when adopting a more granular approach that distinguishes between types of trust (government, public health organizations, science, and healthcare professionals/providers) and conspiracies (specific versus general).

Patients and clinicians have different priorities when discussing pain in the IBD clinic.

Objective: Pain in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is frequently neglected/overlooked, particularly in ulcerative colitis, and communication about pain can be suboptimal. The current study juxtaposes clinicians' conceptualisations of patients' pain with patient narratives. The aim was to inform the development of a pain reporting tool and provide guidance for better communication about IBD pain.

A phase 2a trial of brepocitinib for cicatricial alopecia.

Background: Cicatricial alopecias are chronic, progressive scarring hair-loss conditions. Molecular dysregulation is not fully understood, hindering treatment development. Th1/IFNγ signaling and Janus kinase dysregulation has shown involvement, providing rationale for this phase 2a trial with Tyrosine kinase 2/Janus kinase 1 inhibitor brepocitinib.

Generative AI in orthopedics: an explainable deep few-shot image augmentation pipeline for plain knee radiographs and Kellgren-Lawrence grading.

Objectives: Recently, deep learning medical image analysis in orthopedics has become highly active. However, progress has been restricted by the absence of large-scale and standardized ground-truth images. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to propose an innovative solution, namely a deep few-shot image augmentation pipeline, that addresses this challenge by synthetically generating knee radiographs for training downstream tasks, with a specific focus on knee osteoarthritis Kellgren-Lawrence (KL) grading.
