Background: Acute pulmonary embolism (PE) is a disease with a serious prognosis and a high probability of death in the emergency department.

Purpose: To investigate the prediction of PE-related mortality and intensive care admission (ICU) of Qanadli (Qscore), Bova, and simplified Pulmonary Embolism Severity Index (sPESI) scores.

Material And Methods: This retrospective observational study consisted of all patients diagnosed with acute PE who were imaged under computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) for a total of 5 years between 1 June 2018 and 1 June 2023.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study discusses a unique case of a patient with a rare variation of the ophthalmic artery, originating from the anterior inferior cerebellar artery rather than its usual location.
  • - The patient also had a history of Moyamoya disease, and imaging showed additional complications, including a fusiform aneurysm and vasculitis, as well as a middle meningeal artery branching from the ophthalmic artery.
  • - The report aims to contribute to the limited existing literature on ophthalmic artery anatomical variations, highlighting the significance of this rare case.

Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is caused by various serotypes of genus. Coxsackievirus A16 (CV-A16) and enterovirus A71 (EV-A71) were known to be the only responsible agents for these epidemics; however, this opinion was challenged after the detection that coxsackievirus A6 (CV-A6) was the responsible species for the outbreak in Finland in 2008. HFMD is frequently seen in Turkey, and no detailed study on its clinical and microbiological epidemiology has previously been reported.

Contrary to common belief, the brain appears to increase the complexity from the perceived object to the idea of it. Topological models predict indeed that: (a) increases in anatomical/functional dimensions and symmetries occur in the transition from the environment to the higher activities of the brain, and (b) informational entropy in the primary sensory areas is lower than in the higher associative ones. To demonstrate this novel hypothesis, we introduce a straightforward approach to measuring island information levels in fMRI neuroimages, via Rényi entropy derived from tessellated fMRI images.
