In 222 patients treated in the Department of Infectious Diseases Medical School of Bydgoszcz, one carried out immunoenzymatic examinations to find out presence of HCV antibodies. Among them, there were 33NANBH patients as well as 32 diagnosed as CAH NANB origin, 55 chronic hemodialysis patients and finally 102 IVDU. It was pointed out that the patients suffering from acute and chronic hepatitis type NANB were often HCV infected.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIn nine out of ten patients referred in the years 1982-1987 to the Infectious Diseases Department of the Medical Academy in Bydgoszcz with the diagnosis of chronic (sometimes lasting several years) intrahepatic cholestasis an extrahepatic etiology of cholestasis was recognised. The main causes of the made errors were, it seems, an excessive confidence in the results of laboratory examinations carried out by modern diagnostic methods and a not very careful analysis of the disease. Exploratory laparotomy should be the examination of decisive importance in cholestasis of unclear etiology.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe gammaglobulin-fibrinogen index (GgF) was determined in 30 healthy subjects and 160 patients with chronic hepatic diseases related to HB infection. The group included 60 cases of chronic active hepatitis, 60 with compensated cirrhosis, 28 with decompensated cirrhosis, and 12 with primary hepatic carcinoma. The GgF index was found to be useful for preliminary diagnosis of the hepatic neoplasm and for differentiation of similar clinical pictures of decompensated cirrhosis and primary hepatic carcinoma.

The clinical manifestations of the syndrome contains no pathognomonic symptoms and suggests rather cholecystopathy. This is possibly the cause of rare recognition of the syndrome.
