Containing the first outbreak of COVID-19 in a healthcare setting in India: The sree chitra experience.

The response to the first health worker case in India and novel strategies adopted in the context of evolving pandemic of COVID-19 is presented here. On the same day of confirmation, institutional COVID cell was established, and contact tracing was started. A total of 184 contacts were identified and quarantined.

Role of Domiciliary Noninvasive Ventilation in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Patients Requiring Repeated Admissions with Acute Type II Respiratory Failure: A Prospective Cohort Study.

Background: Acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) with acute hypercapnic respiratory failure (AHRF) is associated with high mortality and increased risk for further exacerbations and hospitalization. While there is ample evidence regarding the benefit of noninvasive ventilation (NIV) during AECOPD, evidence supporting long-term noninvasive ventilation (LTNIV) for more stable COPD patients is limited.

Objective: The aim of this study is to assess the effectiveness of LTNIV in COPD patients requiring frequent hospital admissions and NIV support for AHRF.

Role of Pirfenidone in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis - A Longitudinal Cohort Study.

Background: But so far there is no proven pharmacological treatment for Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). As trials investigating different agents with different mechanisms of actions are going on, encouraging results have led to the licensing of the first IPF-specific drug, Pirfenidone.

Objective: To assess the proportion of IPF among interstitial lung disease patients and to assess their treatment response to Pirfenidone.

Phenotypic identification & molecular detection of bla (ndm-1) gene in multidrug resistant Gram-negative bacilli in a tertiary care centre.

Background & Objectives: Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae isolates have been increasingly identified worldwide. Though molecular data regarding New Delhi metallo-beta-lactamase-1 (NDM-1) producers are available, data regarding their rate of infection in a hospital setting and percentage among different clinical isolates are scarce. Hence, this study was undertaken to determine the occurrence of bla NDM-1 gene among clinical isolates of multidrug resistant Gram-negative bacilli (MDRGNB) in a tertiary care centre in Bangalore, Karnataka, India.

Basidiobolus: An unusual cause of lung abscess.

Non-resolving pneumonia leading to lung abscess is always a challenge to the treating physician especially in a diabetic patient. Atypical radiological features of lung abscess should raise the suspicion of unusual organisms. This is a case report of a 42 year old diabetic male presented with features suggestive of lung abscess and multiple target organ damage.
