In times of increased stress, lactate becomes the primary energy source of the heart, but persistently elevated lactate levels are linked to poor patient outcomes and increased mortality. Recently, carnosine dipeptidase II (CNDP2) was discovered to catalyse the formation of Lac-Phe, an exercise-induced metabolite derived from lactate, which has been shown to suppress appetite in mice and reduce adipose tissue in humans.

Mucosal barrier tissues and their mucosal associated lymphoid tissues (MALT) are attractive targets for vaccines and immunotherapies due to their roles in both priming and regulating adaptive immune responses. The upper and lower respiratory mucosae, in particular, possess unique properties: a vast surface area responsible for frontline protection against inhaled pathogens but also simultaneous tight regulation of homeostasis against a continuous backdrop of non-pathogenic antigen exposure. Within the upper and lower respiratory tract, the nasal and bronchial associated lymphoid tissues (NALT and BALT, respectively) are key sites where antigen-specific immune responses are orchestrated against inhaled antigens, serving as critical training grounds for adaptive immunity.

Introduction: Minimally invasive lumbar decompression (mild®) is becoming a popular procedure for treating lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) secondary to hypertrophic ligamentum flavum (LF). The mild® procedure is commonly performed under live fluoroscopic guidance and carries a risk of radiation exposure to the patient and healthcare.

Methods: One physician performed mild® on 41 patients at the Cleveland Clinic Department of Pain Management from October 2019 to December 2021, while wearing a radiation exposure monitor (Mirion Technologies).

How much should you talk, pause, or interrupt your counterpart in negotiations? The present research on the macrostructure of negotiation conversations to examine how systematic differences in conversation dynamics-the structural and temporal patterns that arise from the presence or absence of speech between interlocutors-relate to objective and relational outcomes at the bargaining table. We examined 38,564 speech turns from 239 online negotiation recordings and derived, for each negotiator ( = 380), 16 measures pertaining to seven dimensions of conversation dynamics: speaking time, turn length, pauses, speech rate, interruptions, backchannels, and response time.
