Individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD) often hold pervasive and negative self-views and experience feelings of low connectedness toward others despite effective treatment. This study aimed to identify neural and affective mechanisms of identity disturbance in BPD that contribute to difficulties in relating to others. Participants diagnosed with BPD ( = 34) and nonclinical controls (NCC; = 35) completed a within-subject social feedback task inside a magnetic resonance imaging scanner.

RNA-programmable cell type monitoring and manipulation in the human cortex with CellREADR.

Reliable and systematic experimental access to diverse cell types is necessary for understanding the neural circuit organization, function, and pathophysiology of the human brain. Methods for targeting human neural populations are scarce and currently center around identifying and engineering transcriptional enhancers and viral capsids. Here we demonstrate the utility of CellREADR, a programmable RNA sensor-effector technology that couples cellular RNA sensing to effector protein translation, for accessing, monitoring, and manipulating specific neuron types in human cortical tissues.

Collaborative Outcomes Study on Health and Functioning During Infection Times (COH-FIT): Global and Risk-Group Stratified Course of Well-Being and Mental Health During the COVID-19 Pandemic in Adolescents.

Objective: To identify the COVID-19 pandemic impact on well-being/mental health, coping strategies, and risk factors in adolescents worldwide.

Method: This study was based on an anonymous online multi-national/multi-language survey in the general population (representative/weighted non-representative samples, 14-17 years of age), measuring change in well-being (World Health Organization-Five Well-Being Index [WHO-5]/range = 0-100) and psychopathology (validated composite P-score/range = 0-100), WHO-5 <50 and <29, pre- vs during COVID-19 pandemic (April 26, 2020-June 26, 2022). Coping strategies and 9 a priori- defined individual/cumulative risk factors were measured.

Determining the Prognostic Value of Complete Blood Count Subgroup Parameters in Bacteremia.

Purpose: Serum cytokine alterations are associated with increased bacteremia (SAB) mortality. Unfortunately, clinical use of these cytokines is uncommon due to limited availability and high cost. Complete blood count (CBC) with differential reflects the host immune response, and CBC subgroup parameters may have prognostic value in SAB.
