Identifying and assessing the magnitude of direct threats to ecosystems and species are critical steps to prioritizing, planning, implementing, and assessing conservation actions. Just as medical clinicians and researchers need a standard way to talk about human diseases, conservation practitioners and scientists need a common and comprehensive language to talk about the threats they are facing to facilitate joint action, evaluation, and learning. To meet this need, in 2008 the IUCN Species Survival Commission and the Conservation Measures Partnership produced the first version of a common threats classification with the understanding that it would be periodically updated to take into account new information and learning.

Background: Cell-free fetal DNA (cffDNA) screening is routinely performed in pregnancy. Abnormal fetal fraction has been associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes, including hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, which are associated with severe maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality.
Objective: This study examined whether abnormal fetal fraction, defined in this study as fetal fraction either <6 or >15 on the basis of restricted-cubic-spline-plot within our study population, was associated with HDP in a retrospective sample, as well as whether fetal fraction improves the prediction of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP).
In this research we identify the processes leading to hierarchical society in a region of Sāmoa, the often-labelled 'birthplace' of the Polynesian chiefdoms. Our analyses in the Falefa Valley on 'Upolu island combine lidar mapping and ground survey to reveal an extensive system of archaeological features: rock walls, ditches, and platforms. Excavation and radiocarbon dating underpin a feature chronology and characterize feature variation.
