Ischemia reperfusion injury (IRI) is a major cause of acute kidney injury (AKI) and ultimately leads to renal fibrosis, primarily via the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) pathway. Leucine-rich alpha-2-glycoprotein 1 (LRG1), a novel modulator of the TGF-β pathway, has been implicated in the modulation of renal fibrosis by affecting the TGF-β/Smad3 signaling axis. However, the role of LRG1 in the transition from AKI to chronic kidney disease (CKD) remains unclear.

Risk factors for photic phenomena in two different multifocal diffractive intraocular lenses.

Photic phenomena are more pronounced in presbyopia-corrected than in monofocal intraocular lens (IOL), causing dissatisfaction after cataract surgery. Photic Phenomena Test (PPT) quantifies photic phenomena in eyes with two types of presbyopia-corrected IOL. We examined the relationship between preoperative eye shape and pupil diameter.

Outcome of anatomical versus non-anatomical lung resection for necrotizing pneumonia in children.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate the characteristics, complications and outcomes of necrotizing pneumonia (NP) requiring surgical intervention.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of all children who underwent surgical therapy for NP from January 2010 to December 2023. Patients were analyzed based on two surgical approaches: anatomic resection (AR) or non-AR (NAR).

Preventative Effect of Topical Rebamipide Against Corneal Epithelium Disorders Caused by Diclofenac Sodium.

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between diclofenac sodium ophthalmic solution (DFNa) and corneal epithelial cell damage and to evaluate the preventive effect of rebamipide (RBM) on it. DFNa, DFNa/preservative-free (PF), or 0.5% chlorobutanol (CB) solution was instilled into the conjunctival sac of a normal rabbit eye, and corneal resistance measurement (using a corneal resistance device [CRD]) was performed 120 min after the end of instillation.

Podocyte density as a predictor of long-term kidney outcome in obesity-related glomerulopathy.

Glomerulomegaly and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis are histopathological hallmarks of obesity-related glomerulopathy (ORG). Podocyte injury and subsequent depletion are regarded as key processes in the development of these glomerular lesions in patients with ORG, but their impact on long-term kidney outcome is undetermined. Here, we correlated clinicopathological findings and podocyte depletion retrospectively in patients with ORG.
