Implementing HIV teams to improve HIV indicator condition-guided testing in general practitioner centers in the Netherlands.

Background: HIV indicator condition-guided testing is recommended by guidelines to identify undiagnosed HIV infections. However, general practitioners (GPs) frequently see patients for indicator conditions without testing them for HIV. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether implementing HIV teams, using trained GP ambassadors, promoted local HIV indicator condition-guided testing practices in urban GP centers in the Netherlands.

Diagnosing Primary Hyperparathyroidism in Pregnancy: A Case of Altered Parathyroid Hormone Degradation in Pregnancy.

Diagnosing primary hyperparathyroidism in pregnancy is difficult due to pregnancy-related changes in parathyroid hormone (PTH); calcium; 1,25 vitamin D; and renal calcium excretion. Parathyroid hormone-related peptide (PTHrP) produced by the placenta adds additional complexity. Our case is the first to demonstrate an increased rate of PTH degradation within a pregnant individual who returned unexpectedly low PTH levels.

Neophilia and exploration tendency are believed to be important behavioral traits for animals thriving in urban environments. Vervet monkeys () are one of few primate species that have successfully adapted to urban environments, thus making them an ideal species to study these traits.
