Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is recognized as one of the most important global public health threats. There is an urgent need to reduce the spread of these multidrug-resistant bacteria (MDR-B), particularly in extremely vulnerable patients. The aim of this study was to investigate whether targeted gene amplification performed directly on clinical samples can be used simultaneously with a bundle of enhanced infection control measures in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) endemic to MDR-B.

Methods: The efficacy and safety of once weekly rezafungin 400/200 mg versus once daily caspofungin 70/50 mg was demonstrated in the randomized, double-blind phase 2 STRIVE (NCT02734862) and phase 3 ReSTORE (NCT03667690) trials involving adults with candidaemia and/or invasive candidiasis. In this analysis, data were pooled for patients with a documented Candida infection within 96 hours of randomization who also received ≥1 dose of study drug.

Of 319 children with invasive candidiasis, 67 (21%) transitioned from intravenous to enteral antifungal therapy. Eight (12%) transitioned back to intravenous antifungal therapy, one due to perceived treatment failure defined by clinical progression or worsening. Global treatment response at study completion was successful in 66 participants who transitioned to enteral therapy.

Early detection of VAP remains challenging for clinicians due to subjective clinical criteria and the limited effectiveness of current diagnostic tests. Blood samples from 20 patients, with ages between 6 months and 15 years, were collected at days 1, 3, 6, and 12, and an untargeted lipidomics analysis was performed using a Ultra high Pressure Liquid Chromatography hyphenated with High Resolution Mass Spectrometry UPLC-HRMS (TIMS-TOF/MS) platform.

We analyzed data on pediatric invasive fungal diseases of the central nervous system (CNS-IFDs) reported by five of a total of eight Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Departments in Greece for 16 years (2007-2022). A total of twelve patients (11 boys, median age: 9.5 years, range: 2-16) were reported suffering from CNS-IFDs.
