Interactive visualizations are powerful tools for Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA), but how do they affect the observations analysts make about their data? We conducted a qualitative experiment with 13 professional data scientists analyzing two datasets with Jupyter notebooks, collecting a rich dataset of interaction traces and think-aloud utterances. Skilled readers sometimes fail to notice seemingly obvious errors in text, such as the repetition or omission of a function word or the transposition of two words, suggesting that linguistic knowledge can override bottom-up input at either a perceptual or postperceptual level. The present study investigates the role of this top-down process of error correction in natural reading of extended texts. In previous research, critical sentences have been presented one at a time, and subjects were explicitly tasked with detecting errors.

Long-term metal remediation in wetland treatment systems (WTSs) involves facilitating dissimilatory sulfate reduction to produce sulfide and mineralize metals in deep sediments. View Article and Find Full Text PDFSynaptogyrin-3, a functionally obscure synaptic vesicle protein, interacts with vesicular monoamine and dopamine transporters, bringing together dopamine release and reuptake sites. Synaptogyrin-3 was reduced by chronic cocaine exposure in both humans and rats, and synaptogyrin-3 levels inversely correlated with motivation to take cocaine in rats. Synaptogyrin-3 overexpression in dopamine neurons reduced cocaine self-administration, decreased anxiety-like behavior, and enhanced cognitive flexibility.
