Article Synopsis
  • Patients with postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) experience persistent pain following a herpes zoster infection, with a significant portion of those affected suffering from a reduced quality of life and challenging treatment options.
  • The review highlights the effectiveness of antiviral therapy within 72 hours of symptom onset as crucial for managing acute herpes zoster pain, alongside analgesics and various medications.
  • For patients who do not respond to conventional treatments, newer interventional techniques, particularly pulsed radiofrequency treatment of the dorsal root ganglion, show promise in alleviating pain associated with PHN.

Background: Cardiac tamponade may present with very different signs and clinical consequences in patients who are supported with venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. Failure to recognize cardiac tamponade in this setting can cause failure to wean from venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, and even lead to death.

Case Presentation: We present a 44-year-old Caucasian female in whom cardiac tamponade manifested as venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation weaning failure.

Objectives: Granzymes (Grs) are serine proteases that eliminate virally infected or tumour cells by inducing apoptosis. GrB has been shown to be associated to the pathophysiology of SLE, whereas the role of the other Grs in SLE remain unknown.

Methods: Gr levels were determined in the serum of SLE patients and controls and linked to SLE activity parameters, including the IFN signature.
