The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effect of xanthohumol and thymol on the impact of on the structure, size and cell viability of subgingival biofilms formed on dental implant surfaces. The structure and microbial biomass of biofilms developed after 72 h, treated and untreated with both extracts, were compared by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and confocal laser microscopy (CLSM). Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) was used to quantify the number of viable and total microorganisms of each of the biofilm-forming strains in each condition.

Deep-seated bacterial infections are difficult to detect and diagnose due to the lack of specific clinical imaging modalities. Therefore, the bacteria-specific positron emission tomography radiotracer 2-[F]fluoro-4-nitrobenzoic acid ([F]FNB) was developed, which is reduced to 2-[F]fluoro-4-aminobenzoic acid ([F]F-PABA) by bacterial nitroreductases and has improved pharmacokinetics compared to the parent compound. PET imaging demonstrated that the uptake of 2-[F]fluoro-4-nitrobenzoic acid in a clinically relevant prosthetic joint infection model was up to ∼4-fold higher in the infected joint compared to the contralateral joint.

Objectives: This study aimed to assess the effect of an oscillating chitosan brush (OCB) compared with an ultrasonic device with PEEK tip (US-PEEK) for mechanical implant surface decontamination using an in vitro model combining 3D models and a validated dynamic multispecies biofilm.

Materials And Methods: A multispecies biofilm using six bacterial strains (Streptococcus oralis, Veillonella parvula, Actinomyces naeslundii, Fusobacterium nucleatum, Porphyromonas gingivalis, and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans) was seeded on dental implants with machined and sandblasted, large-grit and acid-etched (SLA) surfaces. These were installed in 3D models depicting peri-implant defect.

Purpose: To assess the reliability of excising residual breast cancer lesions after neoadjuvant systemic therapy (NAST) using a previously localized paramagnetic seed (Magseed®) and the subsequent use of contrast-enhanced spectral mammography (CESM) to evaluate response.

Methods: Observational, prospective, multicenter study including adult women (> 18 years) with invasive breast carcinoma undergoing NAST between January 2022 and February 2023 with non-palpable tumor lesions at surgery. Radiologists marked tumors with Magseed® during biopsy before NAST, and surgeons excised tumors guided by the Sentimag® magnetometer.
