The therapeutic efficacy and changes of clinical and hemodynamic indices due to the use of long-action nitrates were studied in 91 patients with chronic ischemic heart disease. The native drug nitrogranulong produces an essential effect on the hemodynamics resulting in a complete disappearance or reduction of stenocardia attacks, increased tolerance to physical loads as evidenced by bicycle ergometric data.

The clinical course and biochemical, radioimmune and electrophysiologic findings were assessed in 421 patients with acute myocardial infarction involving heart rhythm and conductivity disorders and 49 patients with acute myocardial infarction, free of cardiac electrical instability. The studies were carried out during arrhythmias and after they were controlled, prior to treatment, at the peak of antiarrhythmic effect of medication, and after a continuous treatment course. Heart rhythm disorders related to acute myocardial infarction were accompanied with a marked response on the part of blood free fatty acids, sympatho-adrenal and kallikrein-kinin activity and carboxycathepsin.

To determine whether left ventricular hypertrophy [LVH] altered total and regional coronary blood flow, we inflated a balloon around the ascending aorta of nine dogs; six acute and six sham-operated dogs were controls. After 6 weeks, all dogs were studied with an open chest under anesthesia; the balloons were deflated. There was moderate LVH as shown by increased left ventricular weight and fiber diameter.
