Background: Secreted Frizzled-Related Protein 5 (SFRP5) modulates Wnt signalling pathways, affecting diverse biological processes. We assessed the diagnostic and prognostic value of circulating SFRP5 (cSFRP5) in colorectal cancer (CRC) METHODS: Plasma cSFRP5 concentrations were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in healthy donors (n = 133), individuals diagnosed with CRC (n = 449), colorectal polyps (n = 85), and medical conditions in other organs including cancer, inflammation, and benign states (n = 64).

Results: Patients with CRC, polyps, and other conditions showed higher cSFRP5 levels than healthy individuals (p < 0.

Article Synopsis
  • Lymphomatoid papulosis (LyP) is a rare skin disorder affecting T-cells, and there's limited information about its impact on children.
  • A study analyzed data from 87 pediatric patients diagnosed with LyP over a 24-year period, noting that most cases were initially misdiagnosed and the average age at onset was 7 years.
  • The prognosis appears positive, with a 100% overall survival rate, although 10% of patients had associated blood cancers, indicating a significantly higher risk of malignancy compared to the general youth population.

Background: Diagnosis of salivary gland neoplasms is challenging, especially on cytological specimens acquired by fine-needle aspiration. The recently implemented standardized Milan system for reporting salivary gland cytopathology provides an estimated risk of malignancy (ROM); yet, for two of the categories, the diagnosis of the lesion remains unclear. However, a precise diagnosis is desirable for optimal patient management, including planning of surgery and imaging procedures.

Cancer patients often receive a combination of antibodies targeting programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) and cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen-4 (CTLA4). We conducted a window-of-opportunity study in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) to examine the contribution of anti-CTLA4 to anti-PD-L1 therapy. Single-cell profiling of on- versus pre-treatment biopsies identified T cell expansion as an early response marker.
