Purpose: This study evaluated the impact of phacoemulsification cataract surgery (PE) on anatomical and functional parameters, as well as the regimen and frequency of anti-VEGF injections in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) over a long-term period (up to 3 years).

Material And Methods: The study included 117 patients (117 eyes) diagnosed with nAMD and cataract, graded by LOCS: LOCS I (=56; 47.9%), LOCS II (=57; 48.

Urine analysis is an attractive approach for non-invasive cancer diagnostics. In this study, a procedure for the determination of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in human urine (acetone, acetonitrile, dimethylsulfide, dimethyl disulfide, dimethyl trisulfide, hexane, benzene, toluene, 2-butanone, 2-pentanone, pentanal) has been described including sample preparation using preconcentration of analytes in sorbent tubes followed by gas chromatography with mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Fractional factorial design and constrained surfaces design were used to optimize preconcentration of VOCs in sorbent tubes.

Article Synopsis
  • A study examined 201 grey mullet fish from Nha Trang Bay, Vietnam, revealing 25 species of parasites, with many being first-time findings in local waters.
  • The research identified 8 species of Mugilidae and 6 higher taxa of metazoan parasites, including Myxozoa with new genera found in Vietnam, and various forms of Trematoda and Acanthocephala.
  • Overall, 96 parasite species are documented in Mugilidae in the East Sea, with 55 in Vietnamese waters; this study adds significant new records to their range of known parasites.

Article Synopsis
  • Precision graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) have unique properties influenced by their shapes, making them promising for carbon-based electronics.
  • The study introduces a new type of GNR, called wavy GNR (wGNR), which incorporates eight-membered rings and is created through a specific chemical process.
  • This new wGNR shows effective light emission and prevents unwanted aggregation, demonstrating potential use in organic light-emitting devices, which may enhance future technologies in optoelectronics.
