Validation of a novel Artificial Pharmacology Intelligence (API) system for the management of patients with polypharmacy.

Objective: Medication management of patients with polypharmacy is highly complex. We aimed to validate a novel Artificial Pharmacology Intelligence (API) algorithm to optimize the medication review process in a comprehensive, personalized, and scalable way.

Materials And Methods: The study was conducted on anonymized retrospective electronic health records (EHR) of 49 patients.

Drug-eluting stents compared with bilateral internal thoracic artery grafts for diabetic patients.

Background: Diabetic patients with multivessel coronary artery disease who undergo coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) or percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) are at greater risk of late morbidity and mortality than nondiabetic patients. We questioned earlier comparisons of these two approaches that showed no differences in survival rates. This study compares drug-eluting stents (DES) and bilateral internal thoracic artery (BITA) grafting in diabetic patients with multivessel coronary artery disease.

Underdiagnosed menorrhagia in adolescents is associated with underdiagnosed anemia.

Objective: To test the hypothesis that adolescent girls with menorrhagia rarely seek medical attention.

Study Design: A total of 705 adolescent girls attended a lecture on menorrhagia, completed an initial anonymous questionnaire, and were asked to participate in a more comprehensive study comprising a detailed bleeding questionnaire, a pictorial blood loss assessment chart, and blood tests.

Results: A total of 105 adolescents (15%) reported they had heavy periods on the initial questionnaire.

Lupus anticoagulants (LAC) are antibodies which are detected by a prolongation of phospholipid-dependent coagulation assays, and are associated with thrombotic events and pregnancy complications in patients with the antiphospholipid syndrome. The antiphospholipid syndrome is defined by arterial or venous thrombosis and/or pregnancy morbidity and by laboratory diagnosis of antiphospholipid antibodies. The laboratory diagnosis is based on LAC and/or anticardiolipin and/or anti-beta2-glycoprotein I antibodies present in plasma, on two or more occasions at least 12 weeks apart.

Evaluation of children with a suspected bleeding disorder applying the Impact-R [Cone and Plate(let) Analyzer].

Background: A convenient screening test for children with bleeding symptoms before more labor-intensive diagnostic steps are taken would be of value. The Impact-R was designed in an attempt to analyse platelet function under near physiological conditions. Results are presented as surface coverage (SC, %) and average size (AS, microm(2)).
