Pediatric procedure-related pain management is often incompletely understood, inadequately addressed, and critical in influencing a child's lifelong relationship with the larger healthcare community. We present a comprehensive review of infiltrative anesthetics, including a comparison of their mechanisms of action and relative safety and efficacy data to help guide clinical selection. We also describe the multimodal utilization of adjunct therapies-in series and in parallel-to support the optimization of pediatric periprocedural pain management, enhance the patient experience, and provide alternatives to sedation medication and general anesthesia.

Background: The modified Gartland classification is the most widely accepted grading method of supracondylar humeral fractures among orthopedic surgeons and is relevant to identifying fractures that may require surgery.

Objective: To assess the interobserver reliability of the modified Gartland classification among pediatric radiologists, pediatric orthopedic surgeons, and pediatric emergency medicine physicians.

Materials And Methods: Elbow radiographs for 100 children with supracondylar humeral fractures were retrospectively independently graded by two pediatric radiologists, two pediatric orthopedic surgeons, and two pediatric emergency medicine physicians using the modified Gartland classification.

An 11-year-old, previously healthy boy presented to the emergency center (EC) for acute respiratory distress in the setting of 5 months of recurrent and worsening rash with progressive fatigue, shortness of breath, chest pain, and cough. At the onset of his rash, he and his younger brothers were diagnosed with roseola. Although his brothers' symptoms resolved, the patient's rash recurred, prompting his primary care provider to prescribe amoxicillin.
