Article Synopsis
  • - Speciation is complicated and often misunderstood, leading researchers to unintentionally promote misconceptions about how species form and evolve.
  • - Six common misconceptions include the oversimplification of species definitions, viewing speciation as a positive goal of evolution, and the false idea that evolution is always tree-like rather than network-like due to hybridization.
  • - The authors urge caution in scientific communication to prevent the spread of these misconceptions, which can distort how speciation is perceived by the public.

Background: In 2020, a mandatory, nationwide 1-day bronchoscopy simulation-based training (SBT) course was implemented for novice pulmonology residents in the Netherlands. This pretest-posttest study was the first to evaluate the effectiveness of such a nationwide course in improving residents' simulated basic bronchoscopy skills.

Methods: After passing a theoretical test, residents followed a 1-day SBT course, available in 7 centers, where they practiced their bronchoscopy skills step-by-step on a virtual reality simulator under pulmonologist supervision.

: As the first sentinel lymph nodes (SLN) in lung cancer are most likely to harbor metastasis, their non-invasive identification could have a significant role in future treatments. We investigated the feasibility of adding an SLN procedure to a diagnostic navigation bronchoscopy. : Thirty-one patients were included for injection of Tc-nanocolloid and an iodinated contrast agent intra-/peritumorally and assessment of tracer dissipation via SPECT and CBCT imaging.

This narrative review examines the existing literature on minimally invasive image-guided sampling techniques of mediastinal lesions gathered from international databases (Medline, PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar). Original studies, systematic reviews with meta-analyses, randomized controlled trials, and case reports published between January 2009 and November 2023 were included. Four authors independently conducted the search to minimize bias, removed duplicates, and selected and evaluated the studies.

Introduction: Cone beam computed tomography-guided navigation bronchoscopy (CBCT-NB) with augmented fluoroscopy (AF) guidance represents a minimally invasive endobronchial technique for diagnosing small, peripheral pulmonary lesions. This approach is characterized by its high diagnostic accuracy and low complication risk. Current pilot trials are exploring the application of localized therapies using this innovative approach.
