Objective: To study the relative frequency of brucellosis among domestic animals in Kassala State, Sudan, in the year 1999 and compare the results of previous studies since 1908. Also to study the frequency rates of the disease in animal contacts in the area.

Methods: Sero-survey for Brucella melitensis and Brucella abortus was carried out on sera of animals brought for slaughter to Kassala abattoir and on sera of occupational contacts of animals.

In the Sudan many asthmatic patients attribute their symptoms to inhalation of bat droppings. Design of the roofs of many Sudanese buildings allows black bats to roost; guano drops through cracks in the ceiling into the rooms below where it can be inhaled and cause allergic respiratory disorders. Qualitative differences in tuberculin reactivity between patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, occupational contacts and non-contacts were observed. An erythematous reaction at 6-8 hours was frequently observed in both patients and contacts but much less frequently in non-contacts. Itching and the presence of superficial bullae occurred principally in the contact group, and the erythematous reactions at 48 hours were largest in this group.
