Due to their self-renewal and differentiation capabilities, pluripotent stem cells hold immense potential for advancing our understanding of human disease and developing cell-based or pharmacological interventions. Realizing this potential, however, requires a thorough understanding of the basal cellular mechanisms which occur during differentiation. Lipids are critical molecules that define the morphological, biochemical, and functional role of cells.

As our health is affected by the xenobiotic chemicals we are exposed to, it is important to rapidly assess these molecules both in the environment and our bodies. Targeted analytical methods coupling either gas or liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry (GC-MS or LC-MS) are commonly utilized in current exposure assessments. While these methods are accepted as the gold standard for exposure analyses, they often require multiple sample preparation steps and more than 30 minutes per sample.

Shelter animals are infected with a variety of endoparasites, and infections vary in severity and zoonotic potential. Data on parasite prevalence in Tennessee shelter animals are severely lacking. Fecal samples from 1111 dogs and 605 cats were collected from animal shelters from 2010 to 2023.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are contaminants of increasing concern, with over seven million compounds currently inventoried in the PubChem PFAS Tree. Recently, ion mobility spectrometry has been combined with liquid chromatography and high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC-IMS-HRMS) to assess PFAS. Interestingly, using negative electrospray ionization, perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acids (PFCAs) form homodimers ([2M-H]), a phenomenon observed with trapped, traveling wave, and drift-tube IMS.
