Severe pertussis infections in pediatric intensive care units: a multicenter study.

Unlabelled: This study aims to evaluate the clinical course of critical pertussis illness to the pediatric intensive care unit in Istanbul. The study was conducted as a multicenter, retrospective study between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2023. Cases with positive polymerase chain reaction testing for Bordetella pertussis of nasopharyngeal swab samples within the first 24 h of pediatric intensive care unit admission were recorded.

Reconstruction of Optical Coherence Tomography Images from Wavelength Space Using Deep Learning.

Conventional Fourier domain Optical Coherence Tomography (FD-OCT) systems depend on resampling into a wavenumber () domain to extract the depth profile. This either necessitates additional hardware resources or amplifies the existing computational complexity. Moreover, the OCT images also suffer from speckle noise, due to systemic reliance on low-coherence interferometry.

Preparation and Characterization of Melamine Aniline Formaldehyde-Organo Clay Nanocomposite Foams (MAFOCF) as a Novel Thermal Insulation Material.

The main purpose of this study is to prepare a melamine aniline formaldehyde foam, an MAF copolymer, with lower water sensitivity and non-flammability properties obtained by the condensation reaction of melamine, aniline, and formaldehyde. In addition, the preparation of MAFF composites with organoclay reinforcement was determined as a secondary target in order to obtain better mechanical strength, heat, and sound insulation properties. For the synthesis of foams, the microwave irradiation technique, which offers advantages such as faster reactions, high yields and purities, and reduced curing times, was used together with the heating technique and the effect of organoclay content on the structural and textural properties of foams and both heat insulation and mechanical stability was investigated.

: The ketogenic diet (KD) is a dietary model that can impact metabolic health and microbiota and has been widely discussed in recent years. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a 6-week KD on biochemical parameters, gut microbiota, and fecal short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in women with overweight/obesity. : Overall, 15 women aged 26-46 years were included in this study.

The Effect of Water-Soluble Alpinia Galanga Extract on Sleep and the Activation of the GABAAergic/Serotonergic Pathway in Mice.

With increasing interest in plant-based compounds that can enhance sleep quality without the side effects of caffeine, Alpinia galanga (AG) has emerged as a promising herbal supplement for improving mental alertness. This study assessed the impact of water-soluble AG extract on sleep quality; the activity of GABAergic, glutamatergic, and serotonergic receptors; and concentrations of dopamine and serotonin in the brains of mice. The study employed two experimental models using BALB/c mice to examine the impact of pentobarbital-induced sleep and caffeine-induced insomnia.
