Clinical, dermoscopic and histological assessment of melanocytic lesions: a comparative study of the accuracy of the diagnostic methods.

Background:   Worldwide, the incidence of melanoma is increasing, while late diagnosis is related to poor prognosis. A significant risk marker for melanoma is the presence of atypical nevi; therefore, it is of outstanding importance to make accurate clinical classification of common benign nevi, atypical nevi, and melanomas. The non-invasive method of dermoscopy allowed for the visualization of structures invisible to the naked eye and undoubtedly advanced the assessment of melanocytic lesions to a new dimension.

Endometrial cancer in a patient with rheumatoid arthritis.

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, systemic, and autoimmune disease. In patients with rheumatoid arthritis, there is increased risk for site-specific malignancies. The authors present a case of endometrial cancer in a patient with rheumatoid arthritis and a review of the current literature.

Hyperamylasaemia and dual paraneoplastic syndromes in small cell lung cancer.

We hereby describe the rare case of a 59-year-old patient presenting with marked hyperamylasaemia mimicking acute pancreatitis upon admission. Investigation of co-existent hypokalemia revealed the presence of ectopic adrenocorticotropic hormone secretion, leading to the final diagnosis of small cell lung cancer, exhibiting dual paraneoplastic syndromes including Cushing Syndrome and hyperamylasaemia. Although, paraneoplastic syndromes occur commonly, paraneoplastic hyperamylasaemia especially in the context of dual paraneoplastic syndromes occurring simultaneously, is extremely rare.

Bilateral ossification of the auricles: an unusual entity and review of the literature.

Background: True ossification of the auricle with cartilage replacement by bone, is a very rare clinical entity and can result in an entirely rigid auricle.

Case Presentation: We present a rare case of bilateral ossification of the auricles in a 75-years old man with profound progressive rigidity of both auricles. His main complaint was a mild discomfort during resting making sleeping unpleasant without any other serious symptoms.
