Remote sensing technologies have the potential to support monitoring of floating plastic litter in aquatic environments. An experimental campaign was carried out in a large-scale hydrodynamic test facility to explore the detectability of floating plastics in ocean waves, comparing and contrasting different microwave and optical remote sensing technologies. The extensive experiments revealed that detection of plastics was feasible with microwave measurement techniques using X and Ku-bands with VV polarization at a plastic threshold concentration of 1 item/m or 1-10 g/m.

Oral anticoagulation is a key component of stroke prevention in patients with NVAF, yet withdrawal or interruption of anticoagulation may transiently increase the risk of embolic events. Research Question: The primary outcome of this study was to explore the causes of morally distressing events, feelings experienced by nurses and coping strategies utilised by a nursing population at an Italian teaching hospital. A secondary outcome of this qualitative study was to analyse whether palliative care or end-of-life care education may reduce morally distressing events.

Organisms living in icy environments produce antifreeze proteins to control ice growth and recrystallization. It has been proposed that these molecules pin the surface of ice crystals, thus inducing the formation of a curved surface that arrests crystal growth.
