The Danish Cancer Registry is a population-based registry containing data on the incidence of cancer throughout Denmark since 1943. Reporting of cancer was made mandatory by administrative order in 1987. Details of individual cases of cancer are available according to the 7th revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) for all years, and according to the ICD-O since 1978.

The development in incidence rates and survival in Denmark, and the rate-ratio in selected municipalities that had industries utilizing asbestos was studied in 1865 cases of malignant mesothelioma identified in the Danish Cancer Registry 1943-1992. For men a steady increase in the incidence to 1.6 per 100,000 personyears in 1992 was found, while the rate for women decreased to 0.

In 101 patients a combined examination of ventilation with 133Xe and of perfusion with 99mTc-HAM was performed. By using the device 101 (Veenstra) the wash-in, equilibrium and wash-out could be evaluated in one examination, the total time needed for one patient was about 10 min. In suspected lung embolism the specificity could be increased to 100% whereas the sensitivity remained constant at 93%.

A patient, 50 years of age, underwent cholecystectomy for gallstones. 62 hours later the first symptoms of a clostridial infection of the abdominal wall could be observed. 8 hours later the re-operation was carried out.
