Since many of these disorders can be progressive, serial assessments may be necessary to best define a trajectory of impairment or improvement with therapy. Patients with neuromuscular diseases may have few respiratory symptoms and limited signs of skeletal muscle weakness, but can have significant respiratory muscle weakness.
