[Low-frequency ultrasonics in the surgical treatment of pulmonary echinococcosis].

The article discusses the results of surgical treatment of 29 patients suffering from hydatid disease of the lungs with the use of low-frequency ultrasonics for rendering harmless the germinal elements so as to prevent recurrence of the disease. It was demonstrated that low-frequency ultrasonics causes death of the germinal elements of the parasite in sonication both directly in the cyst and in the residual cavity of the fibrous capsule of the echinococcus and in the pleural cavity. The methods of application of low-frequency ultrasonics in surgical treatment of various forms of hydatid disease of the lungs are described.
