Article Synopsis
  • Amniotic fluid embolism (AFE) is a serious and uncommon complication that can happen during labor or shortly after delivery, with a high risk of maternal death.
  • Diagnosing AFE is tough because its symptoms overlap with other pregnancy issues, making early identification crucial for effective treatment and improving survival rates.
  • This case study highlights a 31-year-old woman with placenta previa who showed AFE symptoms post-Cesarean section and emphasizes the use of the Quantra QStat system for quick assessment of bleeding disorders to guide treatment.

Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) are responsible for an increase in morbidity, mortality, and prolonged hospital stay. A multiplex PCR kit such as the FilmArray BCID panel could allow early adaptation of antimicrobial therapy, which is crucial for clinical outcomes. The purpose of this study was to test the performances of FilmArray BCID panel for the detection of bacteria producing VAP.

Sorghum is an important food, feed, and industrial crop worldwide. Parasitic weeds of the genus Striga constitute a major constraint to sorghum production, particularly in the drier parts of the world. In this study we analysed the Striga germination stimulants, strigolactones, in the root exudates of 36 sorghum genotypes and assessed Striga germination and infection.

Plants are exposed to combinations of various biotic and abiotic stresses, but stress responses are usually investigated for single stresses only. Here, we investigated the genetic architecture underlying plant responses to 11 single stresses and several of their combinations by phenotyping 350 Arabidopsis thaliana accessions. A set of 214 000 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) was screened for marker-trait associations in genome-wide association (GWA) analyses using tailored multi-trait mixed models.
