Cavo-Atrial Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) Restoration With Polytetrafluoroethylene Graft: Overcoming Lethal Injuries.

Injuries to the inferior vena cava (IVC) carry high risks and mortality rates. We present a case of suprahepatic IVC injury that was successfully treated with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) graft insertion without cardiopulmonary bypass. A 46-year-old woman was transferred to our trauma centre after a high-speed motor vehicle collision.

Anakinra efficacy in COVID-19 pneumonia guided by soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor: Association with the inflammatory burden of the host.

Background: Anakinra was approved by the European Medicines Agency and received Emergency Use Authorization by the United States Food and Drug Administration for patients with COVID-19 pneumonia at risk for severe respiratory failure (SRF) with blood levels of soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) ≥ 6 ng/mL. We report the final results of the phase II open-label single-arm SAVE trial in a large population.

Methods: Patients with COVID-19 pneumonia and suPAR levels ≥ 6 ng/mL received subcutaneous anakinra 100 mg once daily for 10 days.

When Light Is Crucial, but Wind Is Rather Trivial: A Basil Case Study.

Light intensity and wind are critical environmental factors of abiotic stress on plants, triggering a considerable number of morphological and physiological responses. This study tested the hypothesis that different light and wind conditions (full sunlight ± wind, shade ± wind) would affect the leaf content of photosynthetic pigments and anthocyanins, as well as the plant height, the fresh and dry weight of the aboveground part, and Water-Use Efficiency on plants. About 16 days after the application of the different conditions, all leaf pigments of the shaded plants exhibited increased contents compared to the lightened ones.

Intraductal Implantation of Biliary Neoplasms: A Potential Cause of "Multifocal" Tumors.

Multiple biliary tumors rarely develop in patients without underlying chronic hepatobiliary disease. Those lesions are regarded as multifocal neoplasms if there is no interconnecting dysplasia. This study aimed to determine whether 2 separate tumors in the biliary tract represent true multifocal independent tumorigenesis or intraluminal implantation of a single neoplasm.
