The current socioeconomic and regulatory landscape of immune effector cell therapies.

Immune cell effector therapies, including chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cells, T-cell receptor (TCR) T cells, natural killer (NK) cells, and macrophage-based therapies, represent a transformative approach to cancer treatment, harnessing the immune system to target and eradicate malignant cells. CAR-T cell therapy, the most established among these, involves engineering T cells to express CARs specific to cancer cell antigens, showing remarkable efficacy in hematologic malignancies like leukemias, B-cell lymphomas, and multiple myeloma. Similarly, TCR-modified therapies, which reprogram T cells to recognize intracellular tumor antigens presented by major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules, offer promise for a range of solid tumors.

Design and implementation of the first proton beam transport line in VEGA-3 Petawatt laser system.

Laser-Plasma ion acceleration is acquiring importance on a daily basis due to incipient applicability in certain research fields. However, the energy and divergence control of these brilliant sources can be considered a bottleneck in the development of some applications. In this work, we present the commissioning of a compact proton beamline based on a triplet of quadrupoles dedicated to focus and collect short and energetic pulses, open to the user community.

Gut Microbiome-Colorectal Cancer Relationship.

Traditionally, the role of gut dysbiosis was thought to be limited to pathologies like difficile infection, but studies have shown its role in other intestinal and extraintestinal pathologies. Similarly, recent studies have surfaced showing the strong potential role of the gut microbiome in colorectal cancer, which was traditionally attributed mainly to sporadic or germline mutations. Given that it is the third most common cancer and the second most common cause of cancer-related mortality, 78 grants totaling more than USD 28 million have been granted to improve colon cancer management since 2019.

Endocarditis: Case Report and Literature Review.

We report successful treatment of a case of disseminated blastomycosis originating in the right lung, with involvement of the right pleural space, multiple ribs and vertebral bodies, and the pericardium and mitral valve endocarditis. The 22-year-old patient presented with a 13-month history of right lower lobe pneumonia associated with fevers, night sweats, rib pain, and 27-kg weight loss. Pathology examination revealed from multiple biopsies of inflammatory masses in the right thorax.
