Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the factors influencing the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in the Dominican Republic and evaluates the effectiveness of the CoronaVac vaccination campaign that began in February 2021.
  • Using a dynamic model, the researchers simulated the impact of vaccination on hospital admissions, ICU admissions, and deaths, estimating significant averted cases within the first six months of the campaign.
  • The findings indicate that while prior immunity played a role, vaccination was crucial for safely increasing mobility in the population without causing additional health issues.

Article Synopsis
  • South Asian adults in the US have higher cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk compared to other groups, and the effectiveness of lifestyle interventions specifically for them had not been previously assessed.
  • A clinical trial aimed to determine if a culturally adapted group lifestyle intervention would more effectively improve CVD risk factors compared to basic written health education materials for South Asian adults aged 18 to 65.
  • The intervention involved a 16-week program focusing on lifestyle changes, delivered in multiple languages, with follow-up support, while the control group only received written materials; outcomes focused on changes in key health metrics and self-reported behaviors.

We report a measurement of exclusive J/ψ and ψ(2s) photoproduction in Au+Au ultraperipheral collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200  GeV using the STAR detector. For the first time, (i) the ψ(2s) photoproduction in midrapidity at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider has been experimentally measured; (ii) nuclear suppression factors are measured for both the coherent and incoherent J/ψ production. At average photon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 25.
