[Assessment of effectiveness of immunization against Hib-infection].

Aim: To assess effectiveness of Act-HIB vaccine forprevention of acute respiratory diseases.

Materials And Methods: Nine hundred immunized children 1 - 5 years old as well as not immunized children of the same age were followed-up. Criteria for clinical effectiveness of the vaccine were rate of acute respiratory infection episodes, duration of disease episode, and rate of complications development.

[Biosynthesis of mini-antibodies to human ferritin in plant and bacterial producers].

A recombinant scFv antibody against human spleen ferritin was expressed as a barstar-fused protein in Escherichia coli and in Nicotiana tabacum plants and suspension cell cultures. As demonstrated by immunoblotting with antibarstar antibodies, direction of the recombinant protein to the endomembrane system of plant cells ensured its stability and solubility. Production of the recombinant protein did not differ between parental transgenic plants and their first-generation progeny.

[Descriptive epidemiology in population based cancer registries using CNS tumors as an example].

Tumors of brain and central nervous system are rare diseases in Germany. Due to widely heterogeneous notification in cancer registries, population based information on incidence is practically unavailable in this country. The main causes for clinical interest in descriptive data on these tumor entities are severe clinical effects, irrespective of malignancy, and relatively high numbers of cases already in childhood.
