The Impact of Interactions with Nonsurgical Staff on the Surgical Resident Experience in the Nonoperative Clinical Learning Environment: A Qualitative Study.

Objective: Residents interact, collaborate with, and learn from nurses, advanced practice providers, and physicians in multiple specialties. Both positive and negative experiences in the clinical workspace can affect residents' well-being, their ability to learn, and their development into effective, independent physicians. The aim of this study is to evaluate the general surgery resident experience in the nonsurgical clinical learning environment to identify how interactions outside of the operating room affect resident well-being and their ability to learn.

Outcomes of a tele-intensive care unit pharmacist on the management of diabetic ketoacidosis.

Purpose: The tele-intensive care unit (tele-ICU) pharmacist facilitates patient-specific diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) treatment utilizing guideline-directed therapy. This study was designed to determine how patient-specific interventions by a tele-ICU pharmacist affected patients with DKA compared to the standard of care.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study utilized custom reports and manual chart review to evaluate the electronic health records of patients 18 years or older who received continuous intravenous insulin and were admitted for DKA between January 2019 and December 2020.

The Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy Scale: Development and Validation of the General Measure.

Purpose: We developed and validated a brief, yet sensitive, 33-item general cancer quality-of-life (QL) measure for evaluating patients receiving cancer treatment, called the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy (FACT) scale.

Methods And Results: The five-phase validation process involved 854 patients with cancer and 15 oncology specialists. The initial pool of 370 overlapping items for breast, lung, and colorectal cancer was generated by open-ended interview with patients experienced with the symptoms of cancer and oncology professionals.

Pharmacist-driven epoetin alfa-epbx dosing for hospitalized patients.

Purpose: To determine the effectiveness of pharmacy consultation in managing epoetin alfa-epbx dosing for inpatients on hemodialysis.

Methods: This multisite, retrospective cohort study evaluated the implementation of an initial dose consultation for epoetin alfa-epbx by pharmacists. A pre-post cohort study evaluated patients from August 2020 through January 2021 and August 2021 through January 2022, respectively.

OB/GYN residents' training, attitudes, and comfort level regarding genetics.

Purpose: While the availability, utility, and complexity of genetic testing expands, limited information exists regarding obstetrician-gynecologist (OB/GYN) residents' knowledge of genetics and confidence in providing genetic services. This study examined OB/GYN residents' educational and clinical experiences with genetics during residency, personal attitudes regarding the value of genetics and its role in their practice, level of comfort with genetic counseling, and potential motivators for learning about genetics.

Methods: Eligible participants included residents currently enrolled in a CREOG-associated OB/GYN training program in the USA or Canada.
